Why choose cremation rather than burial?
•
Burial is now considerably more expensive than cremation.
• Cemeteries and Burial Grounds, once full, tend to become neglected.
• Our gardens and grounds are maintained to a high standard.
• Over 70% of the UK deceased are cremated. Do I have to have a religious funeral?
• A religious service or a non religious ceremony can be held in the chapels at Barham Crematorium and Charing Crematorium.
• Most faiths accept cremation. Exceptions include Orthodox Jews and Muslims.
• It is not necessary to have a minister to conduct your funeral. Any person may conduct the funeral. |
What happens on the day of the funeral at the crematorium?
• Mourners gather at the entrance of the chapel, or wait in the waiting room, for the hearse to arrive. The coffin is carried into the chapel followed by the close family. The funeral director will direct the other mourners into the chapel.
• Funerals are booked at Forty minute intervals. Extended funerals of 80 or 120 minutes are available and can be arranged by your funeral director. Forty minutes is normally an adequate time to complete a dignified and compassionate funeral to include entry and exit from the chapel, music, eulogies, prayers and committal.
• After the funeral mourners will be led to the floral tribute area to view the tributes and speak to the deceased's family. |
What happens to the ashes?
• Ashes are available the day after the funeral.
• Ashes can be strewn in our grounds or taken away by the applicant .
• The strewing of ashes may be witnessed by the family of the deceased.
